“Our movement themselves have to be healing or there’s no point to them.”

-Cara Page, Kindred: Southen Healing Justice Collective

Healing justice is a term coined by disabled Southern (U.S) Black and First Nations femmes, healers, and reproductive justice movement leaders to honor the historical communal connections within movement and the need for movement spaces to address the mental emotional, spiritual, and physical burnout and complex trauma movement activists, communities and individuals of the Global Majority experience.

Decolonizing Opinion:

We can’t solve burnout prevention in a system designed for our perpetual exhaustion without community.

It’s proven in ancestral spiritual technology and the contemporary science of healing, neuroplascity and Polyvagel Theory:

We don’t heal in silos. While seclusion can be part of your healing process, it won’t be complete without the co-regulation of others. Healing is both/and, not either/or. You have to be present for the relationships you want, both with self and in community with others. This presence practice is not only the skill of being in community, it is the alchemy or work of creating a confident presence practice and empowered erotic embodiment.

Being able to THRIVE in an oppressive system that requires our continual labor, as a self-liberator and space holder, I can tell you decolonization is the healing process, practice, and framework of self and collective liberation.
